SIBA|GITA joins forces with SSSI to go into orbit!
T minus 10 and counting! We’re on the S+S launchpad and just days away from lift-off.
Quick question: What does SIBA|GITA and SSSI have in common with the Space Industry Association of Australia? Hint: It turns out we also have it in common with, sure, Geoscience Australia, ANZLIC and Earth Observation Australia but also CSIRO, the Department of Home Affairs, Defence and the Australian Space Agency! Add in Frontier SI together with SmartSat CRC… got it yet?
The answer is ‘S+S’. We wouldn’t blame you for thinking SIBA|GITA + SSSI… but it’s ‘SPACE+SPATIAL’.
In late 2019 – remember… back before we had a global pandemic – the spatial industry started working with SmartSat CRC and others on ‘Pathways to 2030’. This was the beginning of a focused exploration into the worlds where space intersects with spatial and what that means for Australia.
During 2020 a group including some of Australia’s brightest ‘S+S’ minds compiled a 100-page snapshot of trends and possibilities, commercial and social opportunities as well as challenges and actions needed for Australia to move forward. The issues covered range from national sovereignty to new data stores implications, and lots in between.
This national snapshot – SPACE+SPATIAL Industry Growth Roadmap 2030 – is about to be launched as a discussion paper for people right across our professions to better understand the bold new future that’s rapidly approaching and to have your say around what it means for you, your career, your organisation and stakeholders – as well as all of Australia.
Now, SIBA|GITA has teamed up with SSSI to host a series of SPACE+SPATIAL Industry Dialogues – on-site around Australia and online wherever you are. So far, some of your geospatial colleagues are organising themed discussion sessions on topics ranging from on emergency management and health to the impact for young professionals – with much more to come. Tell us what conversation you’d like to host or be part of.
So stay tuned – in a few days you’ll not only have the SPACE+SPATIAL draft paper but also a series of quick and easy ways you can have your say through online feedback and more.
Watch out for the full story any day now in Position Magazine. And soon we’ll have online updates about how you and your colleagues can “Have A Coffee And Have Your Say” in the SPACE+SPATIAL Industry Dialogues.
If you’re keen, please pre-register interest to host or join in the national S+S conversation here: http://cof.lu/ss-dialogues-eoi
