A select group of businesses and individuals in the Queensland spatial industry were last night recognised at the Queensland heats of the Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards. Awards for spatial innovation, people and community, women in leadership, education development, spatial enablement, and technical excellence were given to four businesses and seven individuals. The Awards, run by the Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA|GITA) and the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI), celebrate the achievements of top spatial information enterprises and individuals. Innovators with services and products related to surveying, mapping, remote sensing, geographic software, GPS technology, and location intelligence are recognised as part of the Awards.

SIBA|GITA CEO Deanna Hutchinson said that the diversity of entries speaks volumes about spatial activity in Queensland. “I am really impressed with the degree of influence spatial information clearly has on the way communities, farmers and governments manage resources. The projects shared through these awards demonstrate the dedication and drive of the industry’s best professionals, working in collaboration with the wider community.” “The value of spatial as ‘technology in place’ has huge impacts on the way Australians live their lives. It is a valuable business planning tool, infrastructure development tool and communication tool” said Deanna.
