SIBA|GITA joins forces with SSSI to go into orbit!
During 2020 an expert group compiled the SPACE+SPATIAL Industry Growth Roadmap 2030. – a national snapshot that’s about to be launched for our professions to better understand the bold new future that’s rapidly approaching and what it means for you and your career, your organisation and all of Australia.

SIBA|GITA has refreshed its membership offerings with newly launched member categories reflecting today’s spatial business interests. You can join as an individual or as a small (1-20), medium (21-100) or large (101+) business depending on the number of employees. New standards for traffic management
Significant changes to technical standards for temporary traffic management at roadwork worksites in Queensland will come into effect on 1 August 2021. As a phased approach has been in place, the new standards have been voluntary from 1 January. A toolkit will be added to the Public Works Technical Subscription. MORE INFO (PDF)

WA grants reward innovation
Landgate is offering grants of $25,000 for up to six eligible candidates under its SPUR Location Grants Program. Applicants need to demonstrate unique ideas for using location data technology to deliver improvements to the state’s land and property sector.
Applications are open from 1 July to 30 July 2021.

Regional infrastructure boost in Vic
Victorian Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas this week announced the new Investment Fast Track Fund is open for applications as part of the Victorian Government’s program to support local jobs and communities. The Investment Fast Track Fund will help take important projects from the ideas phase to be ready for development, with grants of up to $500,000 available to local councils, community organisations and the private sector for planning, design and business case works. Diversity in the spatial workforce
Evidence for the space, spatial and surveying industry to diversify their workforce and measure the impact of existing strategies is closer than ever. A partnership has been brokered which will allow the entire space, spatial and surveying workforce to benefit from Diversity Council Australia’s Inclusion@Work Index when a survey is launched on 9 August 2021. New defence centre lands more jobs in Victoria
Victoria’s defence industry jobs will grow with the establishment of a new state-of-the-art centre in Fishermans Bend. SYPAQ Systems will expand its Victorian operations in a new facility and establish a Defence Autonomy Centre of Excellence, creating 280 high-value new jobs in the state over five years. The SYPAQ Centre of Excellence will develop innovative technologies and intellectual property related to autonomous systems and cyber security – spearheading Victoria’s competitive advantage within the defence sector and generating expenditure of $45 million annually when fully realised. There was plenty to talk about when students stopped by the surveying booth at the Brisbane Careers and Employment Expo in May. Destination Spatial Qld participated in the expo with WorldSkills Qld to show off career opportunities. Thanks to surveyor Darryl Gowlett (pictured) who was on hand to present the many roads to this rewarding career choice.
USQ Surveying and Spatial Science Student Conference
Getting to know you: Potential employers are invited to “meet and greet” surveying students before the official opening of this year’s University of Southern Queensland Surveying and Spatial Science Student Conference on 22 September.
