George Havakis is the Managing Director of GISSA International. Commencing his businesses in 1990, George has accumulated many years of experience in the Geospatial Industry acting as a consultant / adviser to government and business. He is also a founding partner of the joint venture business, Digital Hive.

His contribution back to the industry includes:

  • Member of Australian Standards Committee ISO/TC 211 Geographic Information/Geomatics
  • Member of Australian Standards Committee to review AS5488 for sub surface utilities
  • Member of Australian Standards Committee ISO/TC 268 Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • Founder and coordinator of the A-SPEC Consortium
  • SIBA representative on Victorian Surveying Task Force (STF Vic)
  • Chair STF Vic
  • Convenor National Alliance of Surveying Task Forces
  • Board member Marandoo Estate Limited Sth Australia - grape grower and wine producer


George’s involvement in the spatial information industry extends to participation in the Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA) a peak industry body for the private sector and The Surveying Task Force Inc. Victoria and The Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI).

As the former Chair for the SIBA (now SIBA/GITA) Victorian branch, George was in that role for 10 years and also sat on the National Board, completing two three -year terms.

His recent involvement in SSSI has been as a mentor. As the current Chair of STF Vic one of his key objectives is to lead and contribute to the ongoing difference that STF Vic is making to the surveying industry through its promotion of Surveying as the career of choice. STF Vic has also been instrumental in creating a National Alliance with other Australian jurisdictions and he also sits as the National Convenor of the group.

From a Geospatial and Asset Management perspective, he has created a Community of Knowledge called A-SPEC formed with councils and authorities. George is the Founder and Coordinator of the Community. Commenced as a concept in 2002 and launched in 2004 it has evolved into a consortium of 60+ Local Authorities across Australia who participate in the use and ongoing development of the A-SPEC standard specifications.

His passion lies in empowering other people to succeed in their endeavours, professionally and personally. He continues to explore what it takes to create workability and balance in our lives.
