Member Services

SIBA provides a number of services from its national and regional offices. SIBA is responsible for government relations, which includes lobbying on your behalf, providing input to important inquiries and reviews by governments, other industry sectors and public sector agencies. SIBA also ensures that it maintains a strong focus on regional, national and international press to get out message across.

The Association also represnts members's interests on bodies that are considering issues of importance to the industry including, education and skills development, various technical bodies, and on committees and forums of interest to the spatial industry. With more and more important business issues being devolved to national governments such as industrial relations, corporations law, water management, carbon trading, health, national security and much more it is crucial that an industry body has a strong and united voice in the nation's capital.

Over the past few years SIBA has responded to more than 15 inquiries established by the Australian Government or its agencies. It commissioned, with the Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information (CRCSI), an independent assessment of the impact of spatial information and technologies on GDP in Australia. More recently, SIBA (New Zealand) worked closely with government agencies to conduct a cutting edge economic analysis of the value of spatial information and technologies to the New Zealand economy. And SIBA has been recognised in international cicles for its work on spatial interoperability and water property rights.
